We are currently recruiting a General Manager of People to support our redefined Living, Working Services – West business. This role exists to develop the organisation’s capability to execute the strategic business plan across ESS, BHP & 28 Villages. The position provides the strategic leadership and guidance to continue to build a culture characterised by care, respect, and accountability for performance. It provides leadership and guidance to the HR and Safe Operations business partners, and shared services teams to provide high quality HR operational support across the Living & Working Services businesses as well as providing senior business partner HR support to the CFO and ED.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of People & Safety, the GM – People’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Operating as a strategic partner to senior business leaders in the ESS, BHP & 28 Villages sectors to ensure alignment of people activities to specific business priorities, and integration of business planning and strategy with cost effective HR planning and performance.
  • Reviewing and monitoring of human resources and people process effectiveness.
  • Lead programs which deliver workplace efficiency and agility through the MAP framework
  • Support the development of leaders who operate safe and efficient sites on behalf of their clients, delivering high quality services to our customers.
  • Develop strategies and build the capability of the senior leadership team to motivate and develop people and manage all aspects of employee performance to drive a culture characterised by care and respect and accountability for performance.
  • Collaborate across the broader HR network to collate, analyse, develop, implement, and review HR information, policies, programs, and strategies to best meet the requirements of the organisation based on the 5-year strategic plan.
  • Work closely with the Workplace Relations Manager to ensure compliance, risk mitigation and effective management of employee relations issues and grievances in the workplace.
  • Support contract retention and new sales through development of tender materials, direct client engagement and oversight of mobilisation plans including feedback on mobilisation performance and effectiveness recommending improvements to the master mobilisation plans as appropriate.
  • Actively drive and sponsor workplace initiatives aligned with our Indigenous, disability and gender diversity programs

The Person

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of strategic HR management practices across diverse businesses.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years general Human Resources background
  • 3-5 years’ experience on a Management Team as a Human Resources business partner or HSEQ business partner
  • Solid background in Industrial Relations matters and implications on the business
  • Demonstrated background in improving the quality and effectiveness of managers and leaders in an organisation.
  • Demonstrated background in providing a strong strategic role in significant organisational change.
  • Understanding of business fundamentals and being able to communicate these effectively.
  • Strong influencing and communications / presentation skills
